Use these tips & resources to help ensure your success with professional networking:
Whenever possible, research event attendees ahead of the event. Read the bio’s of event speakers and follow them on social media. If you get an opportunity to speak with them at the event you will have insight into their brand and following and will be able to establish a connection based on this knowledge. If you have access to the event attendee list ahead of the event, scan through to identify people that would benefit you to connect with.
Perfect your elevator pitch. Planning out what you want to say and how you will say it will prepare you for conversations with potential customers or employers. At networking events, time for conversation it usually limited so being able to condense your profile into a short segment is important.
Polish your online profile — ensure that those you meet in person are met with the same professional appearance when they seek you out online.
GIVE and receive – be willing to jump in to help others grow and expand just as much (if not more) as they help you.
Follow up! Develop a strong follow up strategy — creating new connections won’t have much benefit in the long run if you don’t have a plan to follow up and continue the conversation beyond the first introduction.
